By-pass your sat-nav

When recently sat outside one of the cafes in the village, I noticed that there were a number of heavy vehicles still using London Road and not the by-pass.

I then noticed that all these vehicles were either from parts of the UK along way from Alderley Edge (one came from Durham and another from Glasgow) or were from abroad (one was from Poland).

It ocurred to me that they had been following their sat-navs which had not been been updated and therefore did not know the by-pass existed.
Could we not get the Highways Agency to erect a sign at the approach to the by-pass saying “By-pass now open, do not follow sat-navs,” as I recently saw at a road works diversion in Shropshire.

Would anyone know how we could bring this about?

It’s not the Highways Agency - it’s Cheshire East Council who would do this.  There is an officer resistance to putting up such signs - they are generally reserved for narrow and unsuitable roads rather than to deal with new roads.  The sign would come down in around a year as the sat navs are updated.  I raised this when we were planning the bypass and the general consensus was that time would fix the problem.  Don’t forget - there are already signs telling drivers that the bypass is for through traffic - i.e the signs say Wilmslow and Congleton.  More signs will not really help.

Of course, CEC might have a different view to Cheshire County so there is no harm in asking Frank to raise it with officers.

Sat Navs could remain with outdated maps for the next six years, maybe more. What about physical restrictions?
