Anybody interested in starting an informal meet to
train for the demands of mountain biking, which
are not really met by regular road riding? This
will be mostly on-road and taking advantage of
our local challenging hills. The idea is to maintain
intensity and ride at pace for the duration under
the philosophy that, short, sharp sessions are the best
way to improve cardio and develop cycling muscles
and lactate tolerance.
The route I train on takes aprox 1.25 hrs:
Depart village centre (Costa) and immediately climb Macclesfield
Road hill (ugh!). U-turn at top, descend standing upright,
right turn on to Trafford Road, (slalom white lines, traffic permitting!)
right turn on Mottram Road up to Mottram village, right on Oak Road
and steady, thigh-sapping climb to Over Alderley. Cross over to Birtles Lane
and then take the unpaved bridle path on Hocker Lane, turning
right on Bradford Lane for 200m of true off-road, not exactly
the Peak District but it’s the best we have locally. Turn right on
Finlow Hill, crossing over to Prestbury Road and then left for
the long descent back to Alderley on Oak Road, through
Mottram, riding flat-out at max cadence. Phew!
All welcome, with the intention of pairing-up for matches
ability and stamina. Please contact me anytime if you are
interested. Thanks for taking a look, pass on the word;
