Many years ago this village had a May Queen then Rose Queen, then the churches joined together and had a village Rose Queen. My Daughter was the last Rose queen.MAny other local villages also have Rose Queens ,Alderley has nothing.Ten in 88 89 90 we had the Traders Charity Fun and Charity Day all three were a great success.
Many years ago we had the Alderley Silver Prize Band, now a days nothing.
I hear talk of many ideas of what this village needs ,my own idea is that because of its speed of growth we have lost our sense of direction,Many people are new to the village, many do not know the names of Hubert worthington, the Pilkington sisters who did so much for the village and in fact bought a large portion of The Edge and handed it over to the National Trust to stop building,The miss Heywoods, who again did a lot for Alderley, and so many names now lost unless you wander around Alderley Cemetary and read some of the local names. From war heros to royalty to the everyday folk who lived breathed and built this village.
It will be interesting to hear other opinions.

Alderley Edge has lost it’s community spirit and soul. Village fetes, christmas lights, award winning authors, Assembly Rooms for dances, Brownie parades, halloween stories, history and heritage, girls school rivalries and pride.
Alderley is more than designer shops, posh coffee and celebrities. I remember when fliers advertised fetes not face lifts, the park was somewhere we hung out in the summer whilst revising for our A levels. Queensgate ( Panacea) was our first foray into the “pub world” and people knew you and your parents, grandparents…people cared. The Edge is my most favourite place in the world and I am proud to have been the last Rose Queen, but how sad that the community spirit and togetherness has gone… I embrace change-it’s essential but not at the cost of hear soul and village life
