Cigarette butts and litter

This is not a new topic but it has added importance now the bypass has reduced traffic and made the village a more pleasant environment.
In March, comments concerned cigarette butts outside Bridgeford House but the same problem arises at all the cafes and bars in London Rd. which encourage al freso smoking. It is futile to blame the smokers and litterers. The onus rests on restaurants and commercial premises to provide ashtrays and litter bins and to regularly sweep their frontages.Perhaps the local chamber of trade could encourage this practice among their members and neighbours.

perhaps if whinging non-smokers hadn’t driven us outside in the first place we wouldn’t drop our butts on the floor. as smokers we are propping up the NHS at the risk of our lives surely this is worthy of encouragement

Giles, just think what all those nurses and doctors could be doing instead of looking after all you self inflicted cancer victims.  I dont see why us “whinging non-smokers” should have to put up with your vile anti social habit while i am enjoying an expensive meal in my local restaurant on a friday night.  Is it really too much to ask for an adult like your self who is big enough to make the decision to put such a strain on our national heatlh service to just, in return, do something as little as to put their cigarette butts in a bin?  And on a smaller note, i do believe littering is an offence which can incure a £40 on the spot fine?  Perhaps that would focus your mind on where your dipense your litter?

Littering is an offence and perhaps if the owners of Bridgeford House and the like were heavily fined they would take immediate action against those v lazy people who think its ok to drop their cigarette dimps all over the floor with zero thought for anyone else. How on earth can it be futile to blame the smokers when they are the very people that are dropping the dimps in the first place. Where actually does taking responability for your own actions start. Some days I really can’t believe what I read.
