Cancun - Does Anyone Care ?

On a frosty morning it seems strange to raise the subject of climate change , but the world is warming and the climate is changing and its pretty much our fault. Next week the follow on to Copenhagen ( remember that ) takes place in Cancun , but you would be forgiven not to have known.  The political focus is on austerity and cuts , but the earth will not wait while we fix them , though lack of growth does have a positive effect.  Politicians like plans that say we will cut something over the next 40 years , since they will never be measured on it. We continue to need more near term action and each City, Village etc should play its part and consider how things could be done different in a positive way, whether transport , buildings or industry. The alternative will be draconian carbon cuts in the same way as we have spending cuts now. An open question then .. How can we reduce Alderley’s carbon footprint ... and no the bypass is not the answer ... that simply shifts the problem somewhere else.

I think everyone knows what to do locally/for yourself etc, but cant be bothered.

It just needs to cost so much more for energy before people will act on things like insulation, energy bulbs, led bulbs, boiler, draft exclusion etc….....I presume that’s what you mean ??

As for climate change being ‘pretty much out fault’, its not provable, so its a non runner…............I just wish this climate change argument would change to ‘preserving limited resources for future generations’. I feel that would work better to make people act on waste.

Reduce Alderley’s carbon footprint…....just go and have a look at the sorts of cars parked outside the Ryles school and the AESG and you will see the carbon footprint of Alderley Edge will never be reduced.

I presume you will have the same feelings towards my work van, it does less MPG that most 4x4’s.

Why not start with something very simple. I notice a lot of the businesses in Alderley Edge leave their lights on at night. I presume no one is working in the early hours of the morning and it doesn’t take much effort to flip a light switch. I’ve noticed a few businesses on London Road and the large office blocks seem to be the biggest offenders.

Maybe this is something that could be raised at the Alderley Edge Business Group if it gets off the ground. Or anything similar if there is such a thing.

It would be really nice if Alderley Edge could work towards some kind of Eco-friendly town status, although given the amount of high performance and large 4x4 type vehicles in town this could be quite difficult.

Oh God not this one again! Yes Vin, we too can be like King Canute and stop the planet acting like the planet has acted for millions of yerars!  Who caused the “Global Warming” period at around 90AD when it was warm enough for the Romans to cultivate vines in Yorkshire. The planet warms and the planet cools always has done and always will.  The great “Global Warming Swindle” and that is what it is , a myth which is debunked by some fairly reputable scientists now on an almost daily basis.  Al Gore’s hockey stick graph has been proven to be totally flawed, in fact the planet has entered a cooling phase and is set to continue.  It has become an another stick with which to beat us and part us from our hard earned cash by duplicitous politicians.  Yes we need to conserve our resources and cut our pollution, but as David Attenborough has suggested we need also to address population control and other issues. And Vin how much money and carbon was expended flying these ***** to Cancun (at our expense) what happened to video conferencing?  I have cut my carbon emissions by reducing foreign holidays to one a year from two, have one child and a tiny car and refuse to take any lectures from the likes of Chris Huhne and that complete **** George Monbiot. (I have Monbiot’s phone number if anyone wants it, truly, the great man gave me a small sample of his twaddle and proceeded to tell me he charges 30k for a 2 hour rant/sermon if I wished to engage him)
