When is something going to be done over the constant illegal parking of vehicles by walkers on Macclesfield Road? Over the weekend there must have been 30+ cars completely blocking the pavement. I saw people with prams forced to walk in the road. There is no speed limit and the current situation is an accident waiting to happen. The police and local authority seem oblivious to the problem.

I agree with Steve. We walked along there last weekend (as we do regularly). Its dangerous for walkers as the cars pass so fast.

It is not only dangerous for walkers. I live in Over Alderley and therefore pass the Wizard several times every day. People regularly not only park illegally and walkers amble along in the middle of the road. Even more dangerously, many people do uturns in the middle of a very busy road. It is an accident waiting to happen. I have had to brake very sharply on numerous occassions due to people thinking it is a quiet country lane. I am fortunately not a fast driver, but please, if you do park there, even on the layby, think what you are doing!

PCSO Jim Newns attended at dealt with the offending vehicles yesterday Sunday 17th October 2010. Yes there were upto 20 cars parked on the pavement. I am liasing with the park wardens as well as enforcing. Unfortunately people can be so inconsiderate when it comes to parking and do not take into account the dangers presented to others

Glad to hear something is being done about this at last! Paul Oakes, Highway control at Cheshire East is also on the case. He will be requesteing parking wardens to keep an eye on this area on saturdays although the budget doesn’t stretch to Sundays!! Jim, did you issue warning or fines to these vehicles?

The National Trust wardons have erected no parking signs with the Police crest and advice along the problematic Macclesfield Road. This should help deter some drivers from parking illegally.

Great!! It’s not really their issue though is it JIm? Parking on Double yellow lines is the responsibility of ECC to enforce and obstructing the footpath is an issue for the police…........do the NT have the power to impose restrictions…..I think not! Let’s just wait for a major accident then eh??

Hi Steve,
The Police are working in partnership with the National Trust to resolve any parking issues near the Edge and the signs have are helping us overcome these parking issues. You are correct when stating they can not enforce. Only Cheshire East and the Police can.

Whilst I agree there is a danger here I also think that the cost of parking in the adequate car park is rather expensive and perhaps if this were lowered then the illegal parking might be less of an issue. Is someone raising this with the National Trust?

Get a NT membership, then its free.
Nicey yoghurt knitter attitude doesn’t work, the police should ticket continually till it stops. Simple.
