A Footballer's Castle?

Does anyone know what is currently being constructed in the large field to the left of the road, on the sharp left bend where Heyes Lane meets Hough Lane?
Initially, there appeared to be a large but waterless moat-like feature round the entire field.  I’ve since seen some subtstantial blue (water?) piping being laid….  My theories include a bmx/quad bike track to a footballer’s castle.  Both unlikely, I admit - but I’m still intrigued.

I have spoken with my contact at United Utilities this morning, and as I thought, they are working in the field.

He told me:

“We’re using that section of the field to store lengths of pipe before we start work to lay the mains across to the A34. I’m guessing that it may look like a BMX track because we need to strip the topsoil back before we start work and it gets piled up in mounds which may look like jumps (or a waterless moat).

“We’ve also been working in the field to trap great crested newts as
they’re endangered and we can’t start work until they’re safely removed
by our ecologists. You may also notice some small fences in the field
this is to stop more newts coming onto the working area.

“Unfortunately, for fans of BMX and quad bike racing the field will be
reinstated back as a boring old field once we’ve finished our work.”

Not the most exciting use of a field - my imagination really was getting quite carried away!  Perhaps a local entrepreneur fancies a challenge…
Well done to United Utilities for protecting the newts though.
