Saturday, 4th Feb, 2023 10:15am

Alderley Edge Symphony Orchestra's 2023 Workshop will provide an opportunity to study and play An Alpine Symphony which depicts the experiences of eleven hours (from daybreak just before dawn to the following nightfall) spent climbing an Alpine mountain.

An Alpine Symphony was premiered on October 28, 1915, with Strauss conducting the orchestra of the Dresden Hofkapelle in Berlin. The symphony calls for up to 125 players and a typical performance lasts for 50 minutes.

The Workshop conductor will be Richard Howarth. Starts 10.15 am (registration from 9.45 am) at Alderley Edge Festival Hall.

The Workshop fee is £20, which also includes liquid refreshments throughout the day. Participants may wish to bring their own packed lunches or have lunch in one of Alderley Edge's local restaurants.

Guests are welcome for an informal, free-admission performance of the whole work at 3pm.
