Lecture: How should we commemorate the Holocaust?

Tuesday, 25th Jan, 2022 7:30pm

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place towards the end of January and St Philip & St James Church are hosting a lecture at 7.30pm under the
title How should we commemorate the Holocaust?

The lecture will be given by Philip Alexander who is a retired professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Manchester and former president of the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies. He has written extensively and lectured widely on all aspects of the history of Judaism.

He will be seeking to answer the questions; What drove the Nazis to launch their murderous campaign against Jews? How should we commemorate this horrific event?

This event forms part of a programme called Morality Tales – Moral Dilemmas of Our Time.

Rev Robin Pye said "These events were planned to be held in church with refreshments served after the lecture to facilitate the discussion to continue. Because of the high infection rate at the moment, arrangements are being made to livestream the event and offer people the option to access the livestream via a zoom link so that they can ask questions and discuss this important topic online.

"It is still possible to attend the event physically in church however no refreshments are being served on this occasion and in view of that the advertised entrance fee is instead a suggested donation to help the church cover costs."

To attend the event in person, simply turn up on the night. To participate via zoom, email [email protected] for the zoom link.
