Pownall Hall School's Festival of Music, for the whole community, will showcase world renowned musicians playing at venues in Wilmslow including, St Bartholomew's Church and Pownall Hall School's Boddington Theatre. The festival will start on Monday 4th October and will run through to Saturday 9th October 2021.
Monday 4th October at 7.30pm in St Bartholomew's Church
Australian born guitarist Craig Ogden, who has been described as "one of the most exciting artists of his generation," will be performing in a 'Classics Night' at the church. One of the UK's most recorded guitarists, Craig has accumulated an acclaimed discography including six chart-topping albums for Classic FM.
Also, featured in the line-up for the evening is classical cellist, former Director of Music at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music and acclaimed conductor, Stephen Threlfall. An alumnus of the Royal Northern College of Music, Stephen's career began as Sub Principal cello with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and was founding member of the Arensky Piano Trio. Stephen is also a conductor and has earned much acclaim for his performances, recordings and broadcasts having conducted at many major venues and festivals throughout the UK and alongside many renowned international solo artists.
Award winning harpist and music teacher at Pownall Hall School, Louise Thomson, will also be performing at the evening. Louise has played at prestigious concert venues around the UK including the Royal Albert Hall, St David's Hall in Cardiff and Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Louise has also performed with some of the country's most respected ensembles including: the Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and Manchester Concert Orchestra.
The evening promises to be a magical, star studded event, showcasing the very best classical musicians who will perform guitar solos, harp solos and ensemble music for guitar, harp and cello combined. The music for the evening has been especially arranged and will feature composers including Piazzolla, Ginastera, Poulenc and Saint Saens.
Wednesday 6th October at 7.30pm
Pownall Hall School presents its 'Enchanted Night' which will feature vintage musical theatre, cocktail jazz, and modern sounds from the musicals, performed by vocalist Colette Todd, Pianist Joe George and drummer, Chris Tunstall. Colette has been appearing in shows throughout the UK including The Snow Queen (London), Beyond Broadway (UK Tour), Let's Go To The Movies (UK Tour. Joe, meanwhile, studied classical piano at the Birmingham Conservatoire but is now equally at home with jazz and cocktail piano and Chris on the Drums has been teaching drums at Pownall Hall School for many years. The evening will have a relaxed jazz club vibe with seating and a bar.
Friday 8th October at 7.30pm
the musical vibe changes and will showcase up and coming Manchester band, 'Sour Honey' which has been turning heads of industry tastemakers right from the word go thanks to its combination of heady shoegaze and '90s college rock. They have been described as "My new favourite band out of the UK!" by Matt Sorem, Grammy Award Winning Musician from 'Guns 'n' Roses', 'The Cult' and 'Velvet Revolver'. Sour Honey has released two explosive new singles, 'Dennis' and 'Snub', which are available on Apple Music and Spotify.
Saturday 9th October at 7.30pm
'The Phil Shotton Jazz Quartet', will be performing, featuring Corinne Andrew as vocals. Phil Shotton and his quartet will play music from a wide and varied repertoire of jazz standards including, The Great American Songbook and beyond. There will be well known songs for audiences to tap their feet along to, and even sing along to, with timeless jazz classics performed with stunning musicianship and a great sense of character. Requests can, of course, be catered for!
Tickets for all four nights are on sale via Event Bright and are priced at £20 for the 'Classics Night' at St Bartholomew's Church in Wilmslow on Monday 4th October and £15 for the Enchanted Night, Phil Shotton Jazz Quartet and Sour Honey all at the Pownall Hall School Boddington Theatre. Tickets numbers are limited and are expected to sell out quickly.
