3   Disappointing

My family and I used to be avid patrons of Konak, the food and service was consistently excellent. I dined at the restaurant last night for the first time since it was taken over by new management.

I had a mixed starter and the oven baked lamb. The quality of the food is not what it used to be. It was 'ok' in standard, but nothing more than that. The quality of the homous, the meat etc didnt meet expectations. There was lots of fat on the lamb which was wobbley.

The service was also substandard. The kitchen forgot one of the main courses for our party, meaning it came out once we had already practically eaten our food. The manager asked us if we wanted a drink, to which our reply was 'can we not have a bottle of wine?' Maybe a bit cheeky, but instead liaising with us, they just brought a glass of wine to the table, which was a bit rude.

My own opinion is that Konak is now being treated as a 'cash cow', but unfortunately when you have the bar set by the last owners to such a high level, the result is disappointment. Needless to say, my family and I won't be going there again. Their game needs to be upped given the affluent surrounding area, and they can't live forever off the good reputation made by the last owners.

3   Not what it used to be

I used to like this restaurant under the previous owners and used to go a lot. Now i really am unsure. The food is ok but it lacks the atmosphere that it used to have. I thought with a similar restaurant opening next door that they might up there game and made new additions to the menu, but it’s the same old abeit that them wine list has changed and there is a big sign on the pavement that looks out of place. Hopefully they will up there game and go back to how it used to be and i will score them 5 stars in the near future.

5   Very warm and welcoming restaurant

We thought we would try something different this last weekend from our normal sort of thing like The Bubble Room and Gusto and what a great evening we had.

We rang up on the previous Monday and could not get the time we wanted, which we took as a good sign, as a busy restaurant must be a good one?!

As soon as we walked through the door we got a very warm welcome and were shown to our table. I had the spicy sausage which was amazing, just the right heat. Onto the main, all i can say is WOW!! We chose to have the special, which by the way nearly everybody in the restaurant seemed to be having, which is a massive plate with a selection of all the menu on for £14.95 a head. Worth every penny! The flavours are out of this world.

The meat is cooked on a BBQ and with all the spices that are added it just transports you to a foreign land for the couple of hours your are lucky enough to be in the restaurant. If, like me, you are a bit wary of foreign food, dont be scared, get on the phone and book yourself a table here! I'll be back soon, thats for certain.

5   Fantastic Restaurant and Great New Years Eve

Always a warm welcome at Konak - Bagdagul (front of house) is a welcoming and vibrant hostess, Zoe is so friendly behind the bar, and the food is simple yet amazing flavours and unbelievably good value. New Year's Eve there was a great evening with a full house, terrific atmosphere, belly dancing (Bagdagul contributed very ably to this too!), and more good food - and at £37.50 plus drinks was best value New Year's Eve out ever. Many thanks to everyone at Konak for a great time - keep up the good work but dont tell everyone otherwise I wont be able to book a table!

5   I can't believe I haven't been here before

I visited Konak last week with, I have to admit, a few reservations about the type of food on offer as I was expecting vine leaves, hummus etc...which I do not enjoy. I hold my hands up and admit that I was very wrong about Konak - the food is the best I have had in a long time.

It was a very pleasant change from the run of the mill pizza/pasta I am used to eating in the local restaurants. The food was not over powering yet had the most delicious flavours. I had the Konak lamb meatballs which I cannot recommend highly enough.

Combine this with a great, cozy, laid back atmosphere and delicious wine and you have the perfect recipe for a night out. If you don't think it is 'your thing', then please try it - I will definitely be back for more!

5   Great place and knowledgable staff

I came across Konak more than two years ago when walking through Alderley Edge on a Sunday afternoon. Only recently opened at the time, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The menu on offer that day was amazingly priced and very good quality. I have been back between then and now, and still can't fault their quality or service. Alderley Edge needs independents like this.

5   Complements to the Chef

Having only visited Konak on one previous occasion when it first opened, I have to say that I kicked myself, when there last week, for not frequenting this restaurant more often. I'm not sure why, when choosing a place to eat in the village, that it is not top of my list (it will be now!) as I can safely say that it is the best meal that I have had in the village for a very long time. The quality of the food was exceptional and cooked to perfection. I found it a very pleasant atmosphere, the service was warm and friendly and the prices were very reasonable too ... well worth a visit!

5   Consistently good Middle Eastern Cuisine

Delicious food, reasonable prices, friendly service. Cannot fault it. Please don't all rush in as I want to be able to get a table!

5   A really enjoyable experience

Initially we avoided Konak because it looked empty when we walked past, but we have now eaten in Konak on a number of occasions. Each time it has been packed, which isn't surprising because the food is delicious and of a consistently high standard. The staff are really friendly and provide an excellent service in a friendly environment. I would really recommend Konak for an evening out.
