Here's what others have had to say about Frozen Mop.

1   Meagre portions and poor food

My partner and I have been regulars at The Frozen Mop for several years'. We have enjoyed visiting the venue since it's initial refurbishment, so we were interested to see what the new owners, Vintage Inns, had done to improve the restaurant and pub.

We visited the pub last Monday, 11th July, and as it was a lovely day we sat in the garden to have a drink and try the new menu. I chose the Fish Mixed Grill with a salad at £14.75 and Sandra chose the Fish Cobb Salad at £10.95.

We were served our food by Dominic, the Landlord, and at first glance we both thought how meagre the portions were. On tasting the dishes we were both very disappointed. My tiny portions of fish were over cooked, especially the tuna which was extremely thin and tough. Both salads consisted mainly of leaves, with a couple of large quarters of tomato.

Sandra's fried, dusted calamari were as hard as bullets, her mackerel was over cooked and the prawns were still partially frozen.

We were obviously disappointed with both the standard and the size of the portions. We therefore made our complaints to the staff and returned our food barely touched. Dominic came out to our table and we explained why we had sent our food back. Whilst he did apologise and refunded our money, I felt he wasn't very gracious about it.

If Dominic had been gracious in his apology and perhaps offered a glass of wine as a gesture of goodwill, we would have returned to The Frozen Mop. However, under the circumstances we will take our custom elsewhere, which is a shame as this was our local!

My only other comment is that the rest of the staff we encountered were all very pleasant and polite.

4   Small portions but excellent food

Just got back from lunch at the Frozen Mop, and what a lovely meal it was!

I had the rack of lamb with a little shepards pie and my partner had the salmon. Not cheap at just under £35 combined considering I only got 5 or 6 little carrots as a veg which left me wanting more. But the meal was outstanding! Both were cooked to perfection.

Unfortunately the service was not up to scratch either and we had to go hunting for salt and pepper and mint sauce. A shame about the little things, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

The food is excellent, service and portions need improving.
