Year 6 pupils at Alderley Edge School for Girls ventured out for a morning of fun and education this week as they studied the River Bollin on a trip to Quarry Bank Mill in Styal.

National Trust volunteers led the groups around the trail and supported with activities which included looking for evidence of erosion, learning how to measure the depth and flow rate of rivers and searching for wildlife, in addition to finding out more about pollution and how it affects our rivers.

Mrs Debbie Smith, Year 6 teacher at the school commented, "The girls had a great morning and managed not to get too wet and muddy – despite one of our pupils, Izzy Jagger catching a brown trout - which was promptly placed back into the river unharmed. We would like to thank the staff at Quarry Bank Mill for making it such a lively experience for the girls."
