Alderley Edge School for Girls is top performing school at AJIS Indoor Athletics

Alderley Edge School for Girls Prep School has won 17 medals at the AJIS (Association of Junior Independent Schools) Indoor Athletics held at Robin Park in Wigan on Wednesday 24th January and was the top performing School out of all the Schools that entered.

33 Schools from across the North West entered including, top performing athletes from Manchester Grammar School, The King’s School Macclesfield, Cheadle Hulme School and Stockport Grammar School. There was a range of athletic events including standing long and triple jump, speed bounce, chest push, obstacle relay and soft javelin.

Out of the 17 medals awarded, Anya M won a gold medal and achieved a new record for her vertical jump.

Girls from Years 5 and 6 gave an outstanding performance in many different events with the following medals awarded.

  • Y5 - Anya M (Vertical Jump)

Silver

  • Y5 – Sophia S (Long Jump)
  • Y5 - Florence M (Triple Jump)
  • Y5 – Polly A (Javelin)
  • Y5 – Florence M (Paarlauf Relay)
  • Y5 - Phillipa M (Paalauf Relay)
  • Y6 – Sienna W
  • Y5 - Obstacle Relay Team (Gertrude T, Anya M, Polly A, Sophia S)
  • Y6 – Obstacle Relay Team (Ella J, Sienna W, Eleanor K, Charlotte S)

P.E. Co-ordinator for Alderley Edge School for Girls Prep School, Miss Critchley said: “I couldn’t be happier with our fantastic results at the AJIS Indoor Athletics. We have some very talented athletics at AESG and it is wonderful that the School can provide them with a platform to demonstrate their abilities and talent.”

Alderley Edge School for Girls, Headmistress added: “Alderley Edge School for Girls is very strong when it comes to sport with girls competing regionally and nationally in a whole host of sports. It is through sport that we encourage the girls to develop the School’s #BeMore attributes including working collaboratively and developing resilience as they learn to win well and lose with grace.

“Our weekly sports programme is brimming with enrichment clubs, lessons and fixtures enabling all girls in The Prep School to have the opportunity to try new sports and benefit from the joy of physical exercise.”
