Three Sixth Form pupils from Alderley Edge School for Girls' have taken first prize in the prestigious 'Youth Speaks' district final.

Sam Barlow, Emelia Eadie and Amy George won last week's competition, run by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), which encourages presentation and speaking skills in young people.

Alderley Edge School for Girls' has entered the competition for a number of years but this year, there is much excitement as it has been granted the prestigious "Inspire Mark" by the London 2012 Inspire Programme, led by Sebastian Coe.

The trio delivered an inspiring presentation which invited the audience to consider whether love is indeed compatible with our modern age.

Focusing on the challenges presented to love in our fast-paced world, they delivered a thought-provoking and stimulating speech referencing everything from popular culture to the classics.

Having beaten tough competition from several local independent schools, the team will now go forward to the regional finals of the competition in Frodsham on Sunday 25th March.

Mrs Laura Telford, Head of English at the school commented, "The girls performed really well against some stiff competition, all the staff and pupils would like to wish the team the very best of luck for the next stage of the competition."
