Schools come together for charity concert

Five local schools came together this week to perform in a charity concert to raise as much money as possible to rebuild a Kenyan school.

The concert at Alderley Edge School for Girls on Wednesday 23rd November was organised by Sixth Form student Amy Francis, who also composed the lyrics and music for "So Nearly Christmas" which has been professionally recorded by Amy and her saxophone teacher Neil Shaw-Hulme.

The Christmas CD features music played by the Alderley Edge School for Girls Show Band and is sung by the junior choirs from Hale Preparatory School, Bowdon Preparatory School, Forest Preparatory School, Greenbank Preparatory School and Alderley Edge School for Girls.

The concert was compered by School Governor Keith Lowe and featured two songs from each of the school's junior choirs, as well as performances from the Alderley Edge School for Girls Show Band and a saxophone soloist from Amy Francis.

For the grand final 225 children performed "So Nearly Christmas" which was recorded and the live version will shortly be available to purchase from iTunes.

The 'So Nearly Christmas' CD is available to purchase for £5 from the reception. All proceeds from the concert and sales of the CD will go towards rebuilding the Gitare Primary School in Kenya.

In July 2012 a group of 20 staff and pupils from AESG will be participating in an expedition to Kenya to carry out this project.
