Parish Council minutes: October 2011

On Monday 3rd October, I attended the Alderley Edge Parish Council's monthly meeting.

Since then I have reported on some of the issues raised at the meeting, including plans to turn the Heyes Lane allotments into a car park and relocate the allotments to a new site off Lydiat Lane - this article has generated a lot of interest amongst our readers and more member comments than any other article since alderleyedge.com was launched two and a half years ago.

I also reported on the Parish Council's discussion regarding the condition of both Alderley Edge Park and the War Memorial, the outcome of which was to request a number of improvements from Cheshire East Council.

The minutes of this month's Parish Council meeting are now available, click here to read about all the local issues covered.

The Alderley Edge Parish Council meet once a month, with the exception of August. All meetings are open to the public and are held in the Council Chamber at the Festival Hall. Dates and further details for the forthcoming meetings can be found in our events section.

Once again the crass attitude of local councillors who want to turn Alderley Edge into a gigantic car-park amazes me. Perhaps we should have a small version of Disneyworld there instead? Why is is that people cannot leave things alone, and leave Alderley as it should be, a small homely village with lots of greenery instead of tarmac city everywhere. Allotments are for local people to have a real pride in growing their own produce. What about all the noise, pollution, threat of car crime, I hope the residents of Heyes Lane and surrounding roads, are happy looking out over this, or would they prefer to look at some greenery and the odd sound of people enjoying themselves. What's next a multi-storey car-park to replace Alderley Edge park. Remind me who votes for these parish councillors anyway?

Mr Carey,

There was no opposition to the Parish Council in the May 2011 election. In the Cheshire East election there were 2 candidates, myself and 1 other, and there was a 43% turnout, which is not great but equally not shabby in local govt terms.

The result was 73.5% Conservative (1,151 electors) and 26.5% Labour.

I speak to a considerable number of the 1,151 in many formats and I receive considerable support for the ideas to transform the village facilities.

I interpret the strong support at the ballot box and in meetings as a signal that I am doing something right.

Oh, by the way, it was Alderley Edge Parish Council which stopped the proposal by Macclesfield Borough Council to convert the Park into car parking when the planning permission to develop the Precinct was given some years ago.

We used the powers of a Parish and threatened to sue MBC in Court, over their decision.

Mr Keegan,
Thanks for your informative reply as to why you are in 'currently in elected office'.
However, I stick fully by my initial comments about Alderley Edge greenery in this instance the allotments space and their present use, being more important then 'another piece of black tarmac' to further blight the 'beautiful landscape of our wonderful village'.
I do believe, there is a now a independent action group being set-up on Monday 31st at 6.00pm at Power Engineering Consultants on London Road inviting local residents in the wider community to voice their concerns about the proposed plans, and I would urge anyone who feels like they to would like to voice their opinion or concerns to attend.
