On Monday 18th July I attended the monthly meeting of Alderley Edge Parish Council.

Since then I have reported on the lengthy discussion which took place regarding the Alderley Edge Parking Review and the meeting which parish councillors had with James Howard (Projects and Development Officer at Cheshire East Council), Paul Burns (Parking Services Manager at Cheshire East Council) and Councillor Rod Menlove (Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services).

Other issues discussed at this month's Parish Council meeting include the Civic Service, which raised £377 for the Civic Fund and will be held on the first Sunday of July each year.

Councillor Mike Williamson reported on an "interesting" meeting with Chris Allman about the transfer of services and assets saying the situation has "all changed".

Councillor Williamson said "They are not going to give us back the super loo because the maintenance contract is too large. Parks and playing fields have been deferred until April 2013 with no funding, so at the moment as it stands all we're going to get in 2012 is allotments with no funding. Both parks, Chorley Hall playing fields and the allotments is what we want.

"The whole thing is in chaos, noone really knows what is going on but Cheshire East have made it very clear if they don't transfer services will stop."

Councillor Williamson also reported on a "fascinating and very educational" meeting held in Poyton where several parish councillors went to have a look at the shared space concept which is being installed in the village.

Councillor Matthew Lloyd explained that they are creating a "space where cars, pedestrians and cyclists share the space which isn't so demarcated. The object of which is to slow down traffic and to give a sense of uncertainty to the motorist."

Councillor Melanie Connor added "What we wanted was to get some ideas, if anything, which we can transport here to make Alderley better."

Following up on this initial meeting, the consultant who worked on the Poynton scheme is coming to see Alderley Edge and come up with some thoughts.
