Alderley girls win trip of a lifetime

Tutankhamun - Alderley Edge School for Girls

The Year 10 GCSE Art group at Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating this week after winning a regional art competition and a trip to Egypt.

The competition, organised by the Museum of Museums to coincide with the current Tutankhamen exhibition, was open to pupils aged 12-16 across schools and community groups in the region. The challenge was to create a "Pharaoh Publication" chronicling a day in the life of the famous Egyptian boy king, Tutankhamun.

The Alderley girls won with their design, 'The Khamunian' and a happy group of twenty five will now be jetting off to Egypt for an educational holiday of a lifetime in the land of the Pharaohs, which includes an overnight cruise on the Nile.

Christoph Scholz, Senior Producer at the exhibition said: "Congratulations Girls! Your entry was so impressive and blew all of the other entries out of the Nile water! You are a credit to yourselves and your school and we're so excited for you for winning such an exciting prize and jetting off to Egypt later this year."

The girls' prize is an 8 day Egyptian field trip to Luxor's Valley of The Kings. The itinerary will include a visit to historic sites and monuments in Luxor with local, experienced tour guides, an overnight cruise on the River Nile, an educational and entertaining Egyptology session as well some free time on the beach.

Mrs Jackie Jamieson, Head of Art commented, "As with all competitions we enter, we hope to be successful but with lots of high quality entries, you never know what to expect. The team of girls, namely Leah George, Katie Snell, Jemima Hook, Yasmin Tavangari, Justine Redwood, Zoe Pimlott, Hattie Mathews, Jessica Tomlinson, Olivia Welsh, Logan Gray and Catherine Glover all worked incredibly hard as a team putting their ideas together - and it is a credit to them that they have won the first prize."

Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress at the school added, "The girls should be very proud of themselves. We have some very talented artists at the school and in addition to this competition, we also have three of our other girls, Amy Rhodes in Year 8, Kate Banks in Year 11 and Emma Snelson in Year 13, currently exhibiting their work at the North West School's Art Exhibition at the Lowry. Well done girls!"

A date for the excursion will be decided upon once the situation in Egypt and its neighbour countries is suitably safe for them to travel. However, it is likely to be later this year.
