Alderley girls welcome leading institute

Science 017

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining visited Alderley Edge School for Girls Senior School this week as a part of their science studies. Pupils participated in several activities including 'Smart Materials' and 'Materials in Action' - a whistle stop tour through the world of materials including metals, ceramics and polymers, and examined their applications in industries such as aerospace, communications and medicine.

Mrs Jane Bolton, teacher of Chemistry at the school enthused, "The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and we would really like to thank Dr Diane Aston for providing such exciting and interesting presentations. The fields of materials, minerals and mining engineering offer an endless choice of challenging and rewarding careers and pupils enjoy learning from leading experts within the field."

Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress at the all-girls school commented, "Our 2010 exam results showed that our girls excel in all subjects, including the traditionally male-dominated scientific subjects and we are keen to ensure that our girls benefit from a variety of educational resources available including visits as they aid the learning process."

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining caters for students and learners at all stages in the education system from Secondary School to Higher Education and continuing professional development.
