November's Parish Council minutes

As many of our readers know, I attend the Alderley Edge Parish Council meetings each month and report on what I feel are the key issues raised.

After last week's meeting I published an article about the Parish Council getting tough on illegal advertising in the village but other issues discussed include the latest situation regarding the Festival Hall and PCSO Jim Newns explained that his two priorities are anti-social behaviour, in both parks, and burglaries, which there had been a spate of recently owing to the darker evenings. As a result more foot patrols will be undertaken.

Councillors have carried out a review of the parking in the village, both on and off street, and discussed the possible introduction of residential parking schemes. Other traffic matters raised were the questionnaire which Alderley Edge Parish Council produced in September asking for feedback on the initial proposals for road layout improvements at the junctions with Macclesfield Road, Ryleys Lane and Brook Lane. This had produced a disappointing response, thought to be mainly owing to poor distribution of the questionnaire, so it was agreed the questionnaire will be re-issued.

Councillor Paul Tomlinson suggested that an "Open Evening" be held in January where the public could view the traffic proposals for the village post by-pass and views regarding parking could also be obtained.

Why is the Parish Council spending our money on a website in order to publish its minutes and do what alderleyedge.com has just done in about 30 seconds and for free?

Whilst their minutes are on alderleyedge.com there is a chance that people will look at them and comment. Nobody is going to be motivated to go to a clunky council website.

It all sounds very Vicar of Dibley.

That's a little insulting: I hardly think all the work Lisa puts into this website can be compressed into 30 seconds! Also, I suspect that with all the Councillors' expertise (particularly Paul Tomlinson's) the investment of time and money in the PC website is minimal, in return for a good service for we parishioners. Think what the criticism would be is if the PC did NOT use the internet for cost-effective communications!

Just use alderleyedge.com its got a ready made market, its free and there's a much better probability that the minutes will be looked at, discussed and debated. All credit to Lisa for the amazing work that she puts on behalf of the whole community.

We've got something special here which I think has had a very positive effect on the way people interact with each other both virtually and in real life. We should all be encouraging and supporting alderleyedge.com in every way that we can....PC included.
