Above is a fascinating video which Birse have kindly passed to us today. It shows the installation of the new railway bridge for the A34 Alderley Edge bypass which took place over Christmas.

During this time they worked 24 hours a day in order to avoid penalty clauses and return the line to full working order within the tight deadlines. They had a 102 hour slot in which to take up the line, install the bridge and then return the line to perfect working order.

A spokesman from Birse confirmed “The installation went according to plan, the bridge went in on time and with no complications."

The latest aerial photographs showing the construction of the A34 Alderley Edge bypass can be viewed in our gallery and incase you missed it we also have a video, produced by Birse as part of the tender process, which provides a birds-eye view of how the bypass will look when it is complete.
