Christmas lights add sparkle to Alderley Edge

Thankfully the rain held off and hundreds of local residents gathered at The Parade last night to witness the Alderley Edge Christmas lights being switched on.

Organised by Mitch Gilbert and the Alderley Edge Action Group a number of local traders pulled together to provide free mulled wine, mince pies and hog roasts.

The crowds were entertained with music from Alderley Edge School for Girls, Alderley Edge District Scout Band, The Ryleys Choir and Canalside radio. Father Christmas arrived on his sleigh to hand out treats for the children and the evening culminated with fireworks and the lights being switched on by premiership footballers Michel Salgado (pictured) from Blackburn Rovers and Tim Cahill from Everton.

They were assisted in this task by Erin Harris, year 6 at Alderley Edge Primary School, and Amelia Ward from class 6S at Alderley Edge School for Girls, who both won the annual school's poster competition.
