100% pass rate at AESG

Following an "outstanding" inspection report earlier in the year, Alderley Edge School for Girls (AESG) have today announced excellent A Level results with a 100% pass rate and a quarter of the year gaining straight A grades.

These results represent year on year improved A Levels at the girl's school with 87% of all A Level grades being A - C, the grades necessary to gain entry in to the UK's top universities. Of particular note are those students gaining four A grades, namely; Katie Barge, Olivia Carroll, Charlotte Gough and Joanne Rothwell.

In addition, a further nine students succeeded in gaining three A's in their chosen subjects; Amy Baston, Elizabeth Harrocks, Emma Hill, Jess Keely, Loretta Kilroe, Mariyah Mahmood, Leah Saleem, Sasha Seddon and Camilla Worthington.

Loretta Kilroe has secured her place at Oxford University to read Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

Durham University is the destination for five AESG students who are going to read a range of subjects: Anthropology, Archaeology, Law, Modern Foreign Languages and Biology, bucking the national trend by studying traditional degree subjects.

Alysia Booth has achieved A Level success in the face of considerable adversity. Despite suffering from Childhood Rheumatoid Arthritis and having undergone a number of operations in recent years, she has achieved her well deserved A Level results. Alysia will be taking a Gap Year and then hopes to pursue her dream career in Public Relations. "I have no doubt that Alysia, a former "Child of Achievement" award winner, will be extremely successful in her chosen career", said Mrs Millar, Head of Sixth Form.

Headmistress, Mrs Kathy Mills commented "After this year's "outstanding" ISI Inspection Report I just didn't think my final year at AESG could get any better. Yet again, I have been thrilled by the high level of the girls achievements. This is a testimony to all their hard work and the dedication of their teachers."

For the 27th year in a row a record-breaking number of A Level entries for England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been awarded A grades. 26.7% got grade A, which was up from 25.9% last year, and the overall pass rate rose to 97.5%, up 0.3% on prior year.

This improvement in grades will add further pressure on university places, with 60,000 more applicants for university places than last year.
