The annual Summer Reading Challenge, which helps get three quarters of a million children into libraries to keep up their reading skills and confidence over the summer, starts on Saturday 5th July.

Run by the charity The Reading Agency, the Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books during the summer holiday.

It is designed for all reading abilities and children can read whatever they like - fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books - just as long as they are borrowed from the library.

Every time your child finishes a book they get stickers and rewards and there's a certificate for everyone that finishes.

There is a different theme each year and the theme for the 2014 Summer Reading Challenge is Mythical Maze.

Children can sign up to the free challenge at Alderley Edge Library from Saturday 5th July and they have until Saturday 6th September to complete the challenge.

Last summer 54 local children completed the challenge and were awarded with a medal and certificate.
