Cenotaph cleaned ahead of Civic Service

The War Memorial has been cleaned ahead of this year's Alderley Edge Civic Service.

Last week the flagstones were cleaned and the Parish Council has arranged for the troughs to be re-planted shortly.

Cllr Duncan Herald said "The Civic Service takes place partly around the Cenotaph. The 96 names on the walls there are the brave who died for their country, only the best is good enough for them."

The Alderley Edge Civic Sunday Service will be held at St. Philip and St. James Church on Sunday 6th July, followed by coffee on the church lawn.

The Civic Service provides an opportunity for the Parish Council to invite all the local dignitaries, senior police officers, members of other neighbouring town and parish councils and representatives of all the various local voluntary groups and churches to the service.

It used to be an annual event in the village calendar but it fell in to decline in 2003. However, Alderley Edge Parish Council resurrected the tradition in 2011.
