Special treat for model fundraisers

Young models enjoyed a trip to view a high end sports car as a special treat for their fundraising efforts.

Four pupils were taken to the Royles Jaguar showroom where they got to a close up look at the new F-Type.

Tallula Vaughn, Helena Stanga, Lily Eckersley and Sebastian Stanga were amongst 40 children from The Ryleys School who modelled in the recent Lollipop Fashion Show which raised over £13,000 for the new Young Oncology Unit at The Christie Hospital.

Annette Jacobsen, who organised the event with Colin Gillies, said "I thought it would be a special treat for a few of the children who were modelling to have a trip out to see one of the businesses who were supporting us.

"I think it is important to involve the children as much as possible. The staff at Royles were fantastic with us all, they even let us eat all the chocolate biscuits!"

The pupils were joined at Royles by the Christie Bear.

Annette added "The children had a lovely time sitting in the brand new F Type Jaguar, it was a bit of a struggle getting the Christie Bear in but he managed to squeeze in!

The Lollipop Fashion Show was started four years ago and has raised over £50,000.

Annette explained "I started the show in memory of a teacher from The Ryleys School, Mr Paul Wright, who passed away in The Christie, since then we have lost two more staff to cancer, Mrs Dorothy Rutter and Mrs Thelma May. This year was held in their memory too.

"Part of the evening was an auction and a raffle. Colin and I walk the streets of Alderley and Wilmslow asking local businesses for prizes. The response is fantastic, I would say that 98% of people help us. Without this support we would not be able to raise the amount we do.

"This year we had some fantastic prizes for the auction: a helicopter ride over a football ground of your choice, a day in a sweet shop, a day as a fireman at Wilmslow Fire Station, and a champagne tour of the Jaguar factory, being chauffeur driven in the new Jaguar! This was very kindly donated by Andrew Broomhead at Royles in Wilmslow."

The children who won the bid to spend a day at Wilmslow Fire station, organised by fireman Ryan Swindells, had a fantastic day there which included a tour of the station and a ride in a fire engine around Wilmslow. The children also used the hose, cut open a car, went into the smoke stimulation tent to see what it feels like to be surrounded by smoke, had tea and toast with the firemen at their break time and had a photo session at the end of the day.
