Chorley Hall Lane to be resurfaced again

Chorley Hall Lane is scheduled to be resurfaced again in the next 7 days.

The process is weather dependent so signs will be erected in the street prior to commencement of the surface dressing and the work should be completed within 36 hours.

According to the contractor the road will be swept within 24 hours of the new surface being laid, again after 48 hours and again after 7 days to remove any residue loose chippings. Any lines that have been covered by the surface dressing will be replaced after the third sweep.

Chorley Hall Lane was closed for several days in June 2013 to enable resurfacing work to be carried out on sections of the road but it was nearly two months before they returned to carry out surface dressing and repaint the lines. The road was left covered in loose grit and the gutters and path are regularly full of gravel.

In March, Cheshire East Council confirmed that there were some "failings" with the work carried out on Chorley Hall Lane last year, with the surface dressing having already come off in large areas of the road.

The process will involve hot bitumen emulsion being sprayed onto the road surface using a calibrated tanker. Chippings will then be applied onto the bitumen emulsion from a metered spreader and the new surface will be rolled, which will leave loose chippings.

Residents are being asked not to park vehicles on the road whilst the resurfacing is being carried out and once completed motorists are advised to drive less than 20mph over the new surface to prevent damage to vehicles.

Contracts Manager, N Bruton said "Please do not drive on the wet bituminous surface, as this will mark your car and driveways. Do not walk on or allow your pets to walk over freshly laid material because it will stick to foot fare (and paws) which could be transferred on to your property."

You see - a few polite e-mails to the right people and they can get it right - let's now see if the implementation is as good as the planning...

Trevor - I assume it's deliberate and I think that the Setts ( not cobbles ) are a nice feature.
