Twenty take on the Man v Food challenge

Twenty men took on the challenge of eating a monster meal at The Bubble Room last night in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.

All but one were defeated by the giant platter containing a 20oz double Bubble burger and a full rack of ribs (kindly donated by Prestbury Farm Shop) served with a portion of chunky chips.

The only contestant to devour the entire plateful was reporter Alex Hibbert who ate everything in just 15 minutes and 22 seconds to win the prize of a £50 meal voucher and a bottle of champagne.

The Man V Food challenge was compered by Coronation Street's Charlie Lawson and saw The Bubble Room owner Lee Mason go head to head with customers, local businessmen and seven players from Macclesfield Rugby Club, including 7 foot giant Dean Williams.

The competition was the brainchild of Bubble Room manager Emma Mason, who wanted to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice following the recent death of her friend's mum Kathy Winkle. Kathy died from pancreatic cancer in February and the Hospice took care of her and her family who were able to stay with her in an adjoining room.

Emma said "I'd never really experienced this before but the Hospice was just lovely, they make the best of a really bad situation."

Emma continued "The Man V Food challenge was inspired by the rugby boys, and some other customers and how much they can eat. The rugby players come in every Saturday before a home match and eat huge breakfasts."

The contestants raised nearly £2782.45 for East Cheshire Hospice and Rob Pearce won a £50 meal voucher and a bottle of champagne, for raising the most money, having personally collected over £400 in sponsorship.

Emma added "I am really pleased with how much support we got and how much money we have managed to raise. The interest has been amazing."
