Rubbish "shows village in a bad light"

Having taken a walk around the village last week one of our parish councillors was shocked by the amount of rubbish that has collected in certain areas.

Cllr Melanie Connor was particularly struck by all the litter on the triangle of land just over railway bridge, by the car park at Waitrose, the steps down to the park and by the hedges on Chorley Hall Lane, near the football field.

She said "It is a disgrace and shows the village in a bad light. It is not a good advert for the village - who drops all this rubbish?"

Cllr Connor will be raising the issue at the next Parish Council meeting and enquiring whether Cheshire East Council can clean it up.

She added "I think we should follow Macclesfield's example and get the primary school involved in designing a Tidy Village competition."

What do you think about the litter discarded around the village? Do you have any suggestions for tackling the problem?

In Wilmslow a Clean Team has recently formed. Wilmslow Town Council provided the group with a grant of £1682.50 to cover the purchase of over 50 litter picking equipment sets and the necessary insurances and the volunteers carry out two litter picks a month. They are also working with the local schools, businesses and girl guides.
