Land off Wilmslow Road up for tender

Cheshire East Council is currently seeking formal offers for a plot of land off Wilmslow Road which they acquired as a part of a larger parcel prior to the construction of the Alderley Edge bypass.

The 8.6 acre site, which lies within the Green Belt and opposite The Ryley's playing fields, is available by way of a 50 year lease for community uses - subject to the necessary planning consent.

This particular plot is an important part of the Parish Council's plans to relocate the Heyes Lane allotments and build a new car park at the Festival Hall.

The Parish Council is proposing to relocate the allotments to land off Lydiat Lane which is owned by Alderley Edge School for Girls - who in return would like this piece of former farm land off Wilmslow Road so they can build a new sports facility.

The deadline for offers is 31st January 2014 and interested parties are invited to submit information about the proposed use; community and local economic development benefits; proposed job creation, proposed size of any buildings and the tangible public benefits which will be delivered.

The Local Planning Authority at Cheshire East Council can be contacted on 0300 123 5014.

Good to see the Council allocate this piece of land for community recreational use. Preferable in my opinion to a housing estate development that would result in virtually no open space between Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.
An additional sports facility for community and school use could also have a positive effect
on the health and well being of current and future generations. I read some recent new statistics about the benefits of sport and recreation on the following website http://www.sportandrecreation.org.uk/
.
The long-term annual health costs associated with treating each obese child growing up to be an obese adult are £585-£683 per child.

Thirty eight per cent of people believe that the Government’s main priority for sport funding should be targeted at using sport to reduce crime and improve education.

The provision of green space for physical activity could save 1,063 lives a year.
It will be interesting to see what the use the land is put to. I would see sports facilities as a very sensible option .
