Parish Council replaces collapsed bench

The Parish Council has replaced the bench on Chorley Hall Lane which had collapsed and been thrown in the bush.

A new bench, which was purchased by the Parish Council at a cost of £355, was installed by the lengthsman on Sunday, 24th November.

Cllr Duncan Herald explained "We decided to replace the bench because Cheshire East are no longer willing to pay for replacement (or new) benches.

"The existing one had collapsed, after an estimated 40 years of service! One of its uses was as a resting point for older people between the village and the cemetery... once we let the fabric of the village start to decline, who knows where it would stop?... so the Parish Council voted to pay for and install the new bench."

Cllr Melanie Connor added "The Parish Council replaced the bench as it was an important stopping spot for many who still like to stroll around the village!

"They've been waiting for a dry day when they had enough time, as they had to remove the old posts.

"Personally, I think the more modern styling fits very well with the surroundings."

The Parish Council also purchased a replacement for Nurse Hatton's memorial bench, which is located on the junction of London Road and Heyes Lane, last year and two new ones for the park, to replace the picnic bench which was destroyed by fire in May.
