The countdown to Christmas in the village will officially start next week with the Alderley Edge Christmas lights switch on.

Once again London Road will be closed to traffic so the festivities can spread right down the centre of the village on Thursday, 21st November.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of this wonderful community event which is organised and funded by Alderley Edge traders, as a thank you to those who have supported them during the year.

A stage will be located at the junction of West Street and London Road where the crowds will be entertained with live performances from a variety of acts who take part in The Yard's sell out open mic nights.

Many of the shops will be staying open during the evening whilst bars and restaurants will be offering special Christmas treats, including mince pies, mulled wine, hot chocolate and fresh juices - along with the ever popular hog roast.

Much to the delight of the little ones, Father Christmas will be making an appearance on his sleigh and the Christmas lights will be switched on by a surprise celebrity guest. They will be assisted in the task by the two winners of the school's poster competition: Julian Aldams from Year 3 at Alderley Edge Primary School, and Florence Sabry from Year 6 at Alderley Edge School for Girls.

The Alderley Edge Christmas lights switch on event will take place from 6.00pm to approximately 7.30pm with the open mic performances starting promptly after the lights go on and finishing at approximately 9.30pm.

London Road will be closed to traffic between 4pm and 10pm on Thursday, 21st November, from its junction with Heyes Lane to its junction with Chapel Road. The alternative route during the closure will be via; Chorley Hall Lane, Ryleys Lane and Wilmslow Road.
