At the end of the month Alderley and Wilmslow will be welcoming singers from Covent Garden and Scottish Opera along with internationally renowned conductor, Richard Bonynge.

They will be here to make a recording with the Victorian Opera Northwest, based in Wilmslow, of two rare pieces by composer Sir Arthur Sullivan - which will be heard again for the first time in over 100 years.

Arthur Sullivan wrote On Shore and Sea to open an 1871 international exhibition in South Kensington, it was sung at the opening of the Royal Albert Hall. The second piece Kenilworth, is a pageant written when Sullivan was aged only 22.

Richard Bonynge will be making his third visit to the area in five years. In 2009 he gave an impromptu class at the Royal Northern College of Music and recorded W V Wallace's Lurline at Manchester University. He returned to record British Opera Overtures in 2011.

The orchestral players, led by Pia Oliver, come from a wide area and will support Victorian Opera's musicians, some of whom are regular players in Stockport Symphony and Wilmslow Symphony Orchestras.

The professional opera house soloists coming from London are Sally Silver, Donald Maxwell, Nico Darmanin and Louise Winter.
