The 2014 Alderley Edge Poppy Appeal will kick off with a Village Tea Dance.

Ian and Sheilagh Hartley, from G.I. Jive will entertain guests with a selection of music from the 30s, 40s and 50s whilst Alderley Edge resident John Wallace will be the MC.

Organiser Diana Bullock, who was in the Women's Royal Naval Service whilst her son was in the army, was asked to join the Alderley Edge Branch of the Royal British Legion not long after she retired and she is keen to raise as much money as possible for them.

Diana explained "Having had three successful dances locally, two at Mottram for the Methodist Church Spire and last year's Poppy Dance at the Festival Hall, where we raised £500, I felt, along with the other Legion members, that we could try another dance.

"Mary Maczkowiak has always wanted a Tea Dance in the village but last year we were unsuccessful and had to have it on the Saturday night, as the Festival Hall was booked on the Sunday. We would love more people from the village to come along and enjoy the afternoon, even if they do not want to dance."

Diana added "Dancing will be varied from ballroom to jive, barn dance, veleta, Virginia reel and other fun dances. Also 40s and 50s strolls which are similar to line dancing but very simple and also the Charleston. Great fun can be had."

The Village Tea Dance will take place on Sunday 3rd November from 2pm until 5pm at the Festival Hall on Talbot Road.

Tickets priced £6, including tea, coffee, cakes and savouries, are available from 01625 585600 or 01625 585038.

The licensed bar will be open and a raffle will also be held.
