17-year-old falls 30 ft from the Edge

A teenager was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries after falling from the Edge last night.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 9.18pm on Saturday, 12th October, where a 17-year-old female from Congleton was reported to be unconscious after falling around 30 feet over a rocky ledge.

Officers from Wilmslow and Knutsford police stations attended along with around ten paramedics and a mountain rescue team. The casualty was located in a remote location quite a distance from the road. She was treated at the scene, stabilised and then taken to Hope Hospital for treatment having suffered a fractured eye socket.

Sgt Andy Miller who attended the incident said "This female was camping with friends on the Edge and lost her footing causing her to fall a considerable distance. Luckily her friends were on hand to call the emergency services and meet the police and paramedics to lead them to the scene of the accident. Incidents such as this are rare but highlight that remote locations such as this can be very hazardous in the dark.

"With Halloween approaching we would urge people not to attend the Edge as has been the case in recent years. We would not like to see a repeat of this incident as it was hazardous for all members of the emergency services who responded tonight due to the darkness and difficult terrain."
