Parked vehicles block access for ambulance and bin lorry

Residents of Lynton Lane are requesting that some yellow lines are installed, as problems with parking have prevented their waste bins from being collected.

An ambulance was also unable to get through to the care home last week as access was blocked by parked cars.

Speaking at this week's Parish Council meeting Cllr Mary Maczkowiak said "They are being refused collection because the van can't get down Lynton Lane because at the bottom the garages, on the right, are being obstructed by people who are basically using it whilst catching trains. Not only the entrances to the garages and the bins but also opposite so the wagon cannot even reverse round.

"Cheshire East are aware that there are major issues there, the police have been involved on several occasions to go and speak, there's been confrontation with elderly residents and people who are parking their cars from 9 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock and catching the train somewhere."

Mary continued "They originally wrote to Nicholas Winterton in 1985 to ask him for help with this problem. I would like it if we could put some help in their direction after this length of time. They don't want double yellow lines the whole length of the road, they just want particular areas which would restrict people parking and obstructing the bin wagon. They're entitled to have their bins collected like everybody else but if there are no road markings people can also park there."

She added "They are concerned that not only are people parking there all day and catching the train, or working in the village, but you see somebody getting skis off their roof rack and hopping off to Alderley Edge station and the car is parked for two weeks. Panacea are also going to have more and more workers coming to work on the building and those vehicles are going to be parked there because that's where they parked before."

Cllr Frank Keegan is meeting with the new Chief Executive of Cheshire East Council, Mike Suarez, next week and will be walking him around the village to show him the problem areas, including Lynton Lane and the top end of Trafford Road.

This situation is becoming the norm but a lot of the responsibility lies with the many subcontractors working on the huge "luxe"developments on Macclesfield Road and Trafford road ( on the hilly section). It is chaotic in these areas at the moment, and a nightmare to negotiate for driver and pedestrian alike. According to one lady who lives on Trafford Road there were 2 collisions on the same day 2 weeks ago as some workmen chose to park their vans on both sides of the blind bend, there is nowhere to go if one meets a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. I believe our PCSO is patrolling this area regularly but the same culprits carry on parking there when they perceive the coast to be clear. Perhaps a really hefty fine would focus their minds or (God forbid) a "red route such as they have in London would solve this dangerous problem....

It's a very difficult situation as there are no parking restrictions on Lynton Lane so people are at liberty to park there if they wish. But........everyone has to use common sense and thought for others, and there we have the biggest problem! The van in the picture says it all.
