The Parish Council has decided to carry out a survey of the benches in the village to ascertain which ones need replacing and whether any additional benches are required.

Cllr Melanie Connor raised the issue at this week's Parish Council meeting and asked for the broken bench at Chorley Hall Lane, which she brought up at the June meeting, to be replaced as soon as possible.

Speaking about the benches, Cllr Connor said "One has broken completely and been thrown in the bush so we do need to get one in there as soon as possible. Also there is one on Heyes Lane as well which has fallen apart and needs replacing."

She suggested "Going around the village and looking at all the benches that need replacing and where we need a bench and then putting in a bid to the Trustees of the Institute to pay for it."

The Parish Council has agreed to pay for the replacement bench on Chorley Hall Lane, the current one lasted over 40 years. This is expected to cost about £300 - the same as the replacement for Nurse Hatton's bench which the Parish Council also funded, in addition to the two new ones in the park.

However, if any more benches are required the Parish Council would be looking for some funding, probably from the Alderley Edge Institute Trust which was established in 2003 following the sale of the Village Institute to benefit good causes in the area.
