Alderley Edge 1st XI's quest for a third successive league victory was thwarted on Saturday when play was abandoned shortly after tea because of heavy rain.

Visitors Bowdon had run up a useful score of 224-6 from their 55 overs, the mainstay of the innings being a classy 91 from former Lancashire captain Mark Chilton, after Jason Whittaker had removed both of their prolific opening batsmen early on. Alderley's reply had barely got started at 10-1 when the rain came.

The 2nd XI suffered a similar fate in their match at Sale. Alderley posted a score in excess of 200 thanks to solid contributions from Tom Sibley, Marc Chan and David Johnson, but the weather prevented their bowlers from having any opportunity to get amongst the Sale batsmen.
