An Alderley Edge resident spent 24 hours cycling on an exercise bike outside a village bar and restaurant to raise money in memory of his close friend.

Geoff Davies-Palin of Library Place completed the challenge on the decking of The Bubble Room. He cycled from 2pm on Saturday, 27th July, raising £857.28 for Mind, which offers advice and support for anyone suffering from mental health problems.

Geoff, 51, said "I would like to thank everybody who has donated but I would particularly like to thank the people who supported me throughout the 24 hours - especially Colin Ball, Dave Klauber, Patty Caruana, Chris Bellwood and Ashley Etchells who kept the wheels turning for me at 4am whilst I dried out a little and got changed into dry clothes after about 7 hours of heavy rain."

Geoff completed the challenge in memory of Alderley Edge resident Johnny Marr who passed away on 24th July 2012 aged 34. Johnny had suffered with depression from the age of 14.

Well done Geoff. You were a super friend to Johnny when he was with us, and your friendship continues with your efforts to support a good cause.Johnny would certainly have been sympathetic when seeing you sweating on that hot day (and might also have made one or two humorous observations).
