No lines results in "opportunistic and dangerous parking"

Many local residents have been complaining to Cheshire East Council over their failure to repaint road markings in seven weeks, which has led to "opportunistic and dangerous parking".

Work carried out on Chorley Hall Lane finished on Tuesday 25th June and as a result of these works the yellow lines on stretches of the road were covered over and have not yet been repainted.

Last week Cheshire East Council (CEC) confirmed to alderleyedge.com that the Highways team would be returning towards the end of August to complete the works by spraying the surface with bitumen and pressing stone chippings into the tar to create a waterproof membrane. After this has been completed the lines would then be repainted on the road.

In the meantime some drivers are taking advantage of the lack of road markings and parking on Chorley Hall Lane on the stretch approaching London Road.

Parish councillor Melanie Connor has been pushing for the lines to be reinstated. She contacted CEC on Monday 28th July as she felt the parking on Chorley Hall Lane was even more dangerous than the parking which occurred at the bottom of Congleton Road, before the double yellow lines were introduced there.

She also invited a member of Highways to walk along Chorley Hall Lane with her and review the work that has been carried out.

Melanie said "They assured the Parish Council that the lines would be painted back in the next few days."

She added "Having been in a close shave there on Tuesday evening when three cars nearly collided, we need to get this sorted as soon as possible. It is easy to see why double yellow lines were there originally.

"I know CEC are probably thinking they will do the whole road at once but this needs to be done as soon as possible.

"What I don't understand, and have asked CEC, is why was Chapel Road done so well and Chorley Hall Lane done so badly."

Local resident Mike Taylorson commented "The delay by Cheshire East in scheduling the completion not only wastes good weather conditions, but has created opportunistic and dangerous parking on Chorley Hall Lane. This has been highlighted to Cheshire East and police."

Mike added "Why has this work been commissioned if there is no cohesive plan to start and complete, as was achieved on Chapel Lane?"

It's the dumb motorists who do the daft parking with or without yellow lines.Surely they're committing some sort of road offence? I cycle by that way on occassion and its especially dangerous for cyclists. The Council shouldn't have even started the work until they'd a proper joined up plan of execution in place. This piecemeal approach is a lot more expensive.

Perhaps they can put some 'No parking' cones along the road.

It would be silly for the workers to return to work on the road and it ended up with a road full of parked cars!
