An Alderley Edge resident will be cycling on a stationary bike in the village centre for 24 hours this weekend in memory of his close friend.

Geoff Davies-Palin of Library Place will spend 24 hours pedalling on an exercise bike on the decking outside The Bubble Room to raise money for Mind, which offers support to people suffering from mental illness.

The 51-year-old father of three told alderleyedge.com "I am doing this in memory of my best friend Johnny Marr who passed away on the 24th July 2012. Johnny was a character who was loved by many in the village and was sadly taken from us way too soon. He was 34 when he died. He had suffered badly with depression from the age of 14."

Geoff has been training on and off for the past few months, around work commitments, and reckons customers during the afternoon and evening will help make the challenge easier.

He intends to start cycling at 2pm on Saturday, 27th July, and continue for 24 hours, taking ten minute breaks every couple of hours or so.
