Following the resignation of Jamie Macrae in June, Cheshire East Council has unveiled its latest Cabinet Member.

Councillor Don Stockton will take charge of a new portfolio covering housing, planning, economic development and regeneration for the borough.

Cllr Stockton, 52, has lived with his partner Dorothy in Alderley Edge for the past ten years. He formerly worked for British Coal in Staffordshire and Lancashire before later working in financial services and for Norweb Retail. He also owned and ran a care home in Wilmslow before becoming a local councillor.

He has a BSc in mining engineering and an MBA from the Open University. A local councillor on Cheshire East since 2009, Cllr Stockton represents the Wilmslow Lacey Green ward.

Cllr Stockton said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have been appointed to this crucial role and I'm determined to stand up for local people and their priorities as we shape our Local Plan.

"A big part of my responsibility is to listen to peoples' views as we find the right balance for housing and regeneration in the planning process as we go forward - and that is exactly what I intend to do."

The assets element of Jamie Macrae's portfolio has gone to Peter Raynes (Finance Portfolio Holder), visitor economy and Tatton have gone to Les Gilbert (Communities and Regulatory Services Portfolio Holder) and strategic highways and transport have gone to David Brown (Strategic Communities Portfolio Holder).
