Cricket: Boughton Hall prove too stern a test

Alderley Edge 1st XI's recent good run of results came to an abrupt end on Saturday against league leaders Chester Boughton Hall.

Despite a number of batsmen making good starts, an excellent spell by Cheshire leg spinner Jack Williams meant that the only Alderley batsman to pass 50 was Charlie Reid. The innings closed on 177, which always looked an inadequate score given the short boundary and Boughton Hall's powerful batting line-up, and so it proved.

The Chester team coasted home for the loss of 4 wickets with 20 overs in hand, Cheshire duo Goodwin and Dixon both hitting half centuries.

Better fortune lay in store for the 2nd XI who kept up their challenge for the title in an exciting one-wicket win at home to Boughton Hall.
