Summer flowers add a splash of colour

As many of you will have noticed flowers have now been planted in the tubs in the village centre.

Alderley Edge Parish Council has arranged for nine tubs on London Road and five on The Parade to be planted - brightening up the village centre.

Cllr Melanie Connor said "We would love more on the main road and will have to look at costings and contributions for the future. I am also very keen to get 'Incredible Edibles' into Alderley and I know a number of other councillors are keen to do this, so we need to get containers in place asap."

Fourteen hanging baskets have also been put up on London Road, outside those shops where the brackets were available.

Cllr Melanie Connor explained "Hanging baskets were always done by the Village Enhancement Committee and this is a follow on. They were done last year for the first time (ahead of the Jubilee celebrations). After a break of a few years the Parish Council agreed to bring them back."

The hanging baskets are watered by the individual businesses and if anyone would like a hanging basket next year, who does not currently have a bracket, then contact the Parish Council to arrange.

Cllr Connor added "I know that it's going to take some work with Cheshire East Council to get investment in the pavements etc. I also know the restaurants do fantastic displays and outside decoration and its great to see shops with some flora and fauna - all we need is sun to keep them looking good."

The total cost for the flower tubs and hanging baskets was £750.

Great, the more the merrier!

Just a pity about the weeds growing around the tub! But I'm carping - I will find the tub and try to remove the offending items myself. Time for a spot of guerrilla gardening!

Anything that improves the appearance of the village has my vote. I can however see from the lack of responses signals a lack of interest.

Marina, there may have been little response posted on our favourite website but from chatting with many residents, local and otherwise, there has been a very positive response. Like me they agree that we have the best floral display ever.
