Chorley Hall Lane to close for resurfacing works

DSC_3948

Chorley Hall Lane will close this week to enable Cheshire East Highways to carry out resurfacing works from Ryleys Lane to London Road.

The works are programmed to start on Thursday 20th June.

Whilst the sign placed on Chorley Hall Lane says the road will be closed for just one day, a letter and email I received says the works will be carried out on Thursday 20th, Friday 21st, Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th June. I have also just received another email today saying the road will be closed for two days, Thursday and Friday - so we are not sure how long the road will remain closed for.

According to the Asset Investment Programme I was sent last month Chorley Hall Lane was earmarked for the same treatment of a binder course and surface course inlay as Chapel Road, but the email received today says Cheshire East Highways will be carrying out surface dressing patching works.

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and for residents by a gatekeeper who will be located at each end.

It is anticipated that the work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm.

If you have any enquiries relating to the works please call 03001235020 or alternatively email [email protected].

... and about time too !!!
Today I saw Council workmen filling in the holes on South Street (the road where "The Yard" is situated) ... although I doubt the "repair" will last for more than a few weeks ?
This has happened before, especially on South Street, whereby workmen filled-in some of the holes with tarmac but it only lasted a few months, then the tarmac / asphalt became loose again and back to square one !!!
What a total waste of time and money ... Why oh why can't the job be done thoroughly ? That way, it would be Council money (ie; our money) well spent , instead of all this nonsense !

Whilst I am delighted that this remedial work is finally being undertaken, I am slightly bemused
as to the" quality " of repair, if it is not as thorough as Chapel Road. The section from the intersection of London Road and Chorley Hall Lane to the Railway Bridge requires a total
resurfacing, Not a patch and make do!
The collapse of the road outside Fosters approximately one year ago also highlights the need
to continually clear the drainage covers of silt washing down from the Edge & Congleton Road.

I have just had a walk up the lane this morning and while the bottom end is quite a good job, I can't understand why they have left some patches (about two car length) untouched, also they have covered over the cobbles (in the gutter) at the bottom end, but not in the middle.
Looks like they will be back for a third day on Monday near the railway bridge to Fosters.
