Matthew Lloyd has been elected as the new chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council.

He replaces Cllr Mike Williamson who has held the role for the past three years.

Matthew Lloyd joined the Parish Council in March 2009 and lives on Talbot Road with his wife Nicola and son Hugo.

Speaking about his new role Cllr Lloyd said "Mike Williamson has been chairman for three years, during which time I have served as his vice chair, a role which I have thoroughly enjoyed. With Mike deciding to not seek re-election as the chairman I was honoured to be supported by my fellow candidates to replace him."

Matthew, 49, is a governor of Lindow Community Primary School and vice chair of Tatton Conservative Association. He moved to Alderley Edge is 1999 from St Albans, was born in Grappenhall and has a degree in computer systems from Cardiff University and an MBA from Warwick Business School. Matthew is the MD and owner of an e-learning software company with offices in Alderley Edge, St. Albans and Boston, USA.

Speaking about the priorities and key challenges of the coming year, Matthew said "As the many regular readers of alderleyedge.com are well aware, there are many opportunities and challenges currently facing the Parish Council. Without doubt a key priority for the Parish Council is the re-development of the Festival Hall to provide both a modern health centre in Alderley Edge and also a significantly enhanced community hall.

"In addition, there remains a need for significant investment in the infrastructure of the village centre - the poor state of the pavements being only the most obvious example. And of course, the poor state of repair of our roads, though not a problem unique to Alderley, is certainly a significant issue throughout the village.

"Additionally, parking is growing problem for the village, which is increasingly becoming an issue further and further from the village centre. There has been a parking review carried out by Cheshire East which has not yet been fully implemented, but which is also arguably already out of date as the parking problem has significantly worsened in the last year or so.

"Much of what needs to be achieved will only be delivered by a strong and effective partnership between Alderley Edge Parish Council and Cheshire East. To this end I look forward to further engaging with Cheshire East to enlist their support where appropriate."

Cllr Duncan Herald has replaced Matthew Lloyd as vice-chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council.
