Local Guides win top award

A record number of Guides from Alderley Edge District were presented with the highest award a Guide can achieve at a special ceremony recently.

Eight girls from the three Guiding units in the District received their Baden-Powell (BP) Challenge Award at the Cheshire Border Guiding County BP Awards evening in Chelford Village Hall on April 29th.

To be eligible for the BP Award, Guides have to complete a programme of challenging activities covering five different themes: healthy lifestyles, global awareness, discovery, skills and relationships, and celebrating diversity. The programme also includes a Baden-Powell adventure which usually a residential challenge organised at county or regional level.

The latest Alderley Edge District Baden Powell Challenge Award winners from Alderley Edge Guides are Clarissa Tyson, Evie Hughes and Ella Hillyard.

Imogen Walker from Prestbury Guides and Verity Henfrey, Meg Prigmore, Poppy Kelly, and Laura McCaig Clarke from Mottram St Andrew Guides also received the Baden Powell Challenge Award.

District Baden-Powell Challenge Co-ordinator Sue Hector said "We're only a small Guiding District so to have so many Guides at any one time eligible for this prestigious award is a real tribute to the enthusiasm and commitment of Guiding in the Alderley Edge area. The girls should be proud of their achievements. It demonstrates their ability in essential skills and will be valued on their CVs as they go out into the workplace."
