Ofsted rates David Lewis College as outstanding

DLOfsted report 01052013

Students, parents and all staff at David Lewis College are delighted that Ofsted have rated the College an "Outstanding: Grade 1 College", making them the first specialist college to have been judged so using the new Ofsted framework.

The inspection team spent three days looking at every aspect of college provision, grading each area of delivery as 'outstanding.'

The report highlights the skills, enthusiasm and high quality practice of teachers, therapists and of specialist support staff. This enables individual students to progress successfully towards developing independent living skills and an understanding of the world of work. It commends a "relentless focus on improving teaching, learning and assessment," as well as leadership, management and planning.

Director of Education, Billy McInally said "I am particularly pleased that Ofsted recognised the positive contribution of our entire college community and I would like to thank them all for the contributions they make, ensuring our students receive an outstanding learning experience, one that meets their individual needs.

"There is no doubt that by working together we can guarantee that the provision we offer our young people continues to be among the very best in the entire country."

David Lewis is a charity dedicated to improving the life experiences of people with complex epilepsy, autism and learning difficulties. About a third of college students attend on a day only basis, whilst most are residential from across the country.
