The National Trust is opening the doors to more than 200 of its houses and gardens for free this weekend.

As part of their Free Weekend families will have the opportunity to explore National Trust places across Cheshire, without stretching the purse strings.

Spokesperson Debbie Peers said: "As well as giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together, the Free Weekend also removes the financial concerns usually associated with great days out, providing a family saving of around £30."

For those who want to make the most of the Free Weekend and visit one or more Trust places, a suggested itinerary has been put together for Cheshire:

Am - Discover the story of the Industrial Revolution at 18th century Quarry Bank, Wilmslow. Wander around the spartan Victorian Apprentice House where child labourers who worked at the Mill lived, and see how far you can see up the mill chimney! Have a game of croquet or pick up a family tracker pack in the 18th century gardens.

Pm – Head to Little Moreton Hall, Congleton where you'll see this quirky 16th century building, home to the Moreton family for centuries. Learn about the practicalities of Tudor life – from washing clothes to 'ironing' Tudor style; play a traditional game of skittles or take a free guided tour.

Or take to the moorland at Lyme Park, Stockport with it's fantastic views across the Cheshire Plain. Step back in time and discover what life was like for the Edwardians at Lyme – play the piano, dress up or write a letter in the drawing room. For more energetic folk there's Crow Wood playscape where kids can enjoy the giant slide, tree house and tree trunk climbing.

Other Cheshire properties open for free on the 20th and 21st April are Dunham Massey and Hare Hill Garden.

To enjoy free entry, download the free entry voucher from the National Trust website and bring it along on the day.
